On June 25-28, 2007, the Center for Studies in Economics and Finance (CSEF)
and the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research (IGIER Bocconi) hold their joint CSEF-IGIER Symposium on Economics and Institutions. The
conference structure reflected the intention of leaving time for free, informal
discussion. Seminars took place in the mornings in three parallel sessions.
Afternoons were reserved for more informal workshops and collaborative work.
The conference program included papers in the following areas:
There were five invited lectures given by leading international scholars:
Patrick Bolton (Columbia
University), Adam Brandeburger (New York University), Marco
Ottaviani (University of Toulouse I),
Alessandro Pavan (Northwestern University),
Ailsa Roell (Columbia University)
The conference venue was Villa Orlandi
(http://www.villaorlandi.unina.it),
a
seventeenth century villa on the island of Capri at a short distance from
Anacapri.
Beside the presentation of
advances in economic research, this conference also allowed a peculiar form of
intellectual production: that of two "dinnertime collective stories", which were
initiated by 13-year-old Eric Bolton. In both cases. he wrote the initial
sentence and then the piece of paper with the unfolding story went around the
table, with everyone adding in turn his or her own piece to the story. From the
results, you can see that - as argued by Ariel Rubinstein - economists really
ARE story-tellers, and quite imaginative ones!
